On April 12th, the ASDAN Business Simulation for G7-9 students came to a successful end. Two MBS teams stood out from more than 40 teams from all over China and won one gold and one bronze to have advanced to the summer WYEF national championship!

As one of the most prestigious business and finance competitions in China, ASDAN is based on a professional mock business system, which simulates the real market and decision-making process of a company, and the winner will be the team making the most profit.

The ASDAN Business Simulation lasts for one day, with three core sessions: operation and decision making, roadshow and business battle. It aims to help students gain basic business knowledge and develop their teamwork, problem solving, learning and practice, market analysis, public speaking and communication skills.

When teaching was moved online, MBS and ASDAN China Office held a Secondary School Student Business Simulation Online Challenge, where participants competed against each other to have completed an exciting business battle online.

Teachers teaching Individual and Society said that the students were very enthusiastic and a total of 20 MBS students participated in the competition.

We hope to bring in resources that will help MBS students understand basic economic concepts. Thanks to the competition, the students were able to enhance their core skills in teamwork, problem solving, practical analysis, and operation and decision-making. MBS students won one gold and one bronze eventually, great achievements. Regardless of the awards, all the students fought through the whole game, and their hardworking spirit and perseverance is what should be most remembered.

"Little Entrepreneurs" Reflection

The contest was a lot of fun, and it was a great surprise to have won the prize. During the roadshow, we misremembered the page number where we had to present, which made the situation a bit awkward for a while, but fortunately, we often do presentations in class, so we had a lot of presentation experience, so we were able to manage it through and eventually completed the roadshow smoothly.

During this contest, our team worked very well together. Despite this, we were always the underdogs in the first three rounds because we were too conservative in our decision making and just wanted to play it safe, and as a result, although we didn't lose in profit, we made very little money. By the time the results of the third round came out, we didn’t even make it into the first 10 places, which was certainly not possible for us to get ahead in the next round. So, the whole team was a little bit weighed down, and we made a bold decision to borrow the maximum amount we could from the bank and then made goods in bulk for the market. This leap of faith was a very risky one for us! Thankfully, we won the bet, netted $7 million on the final round of investing, and jumped up to #6 in the rankings to have made it to the finals! The business world is like a battlefield, and if you keep hesitating and cowering, you won't make a fortune after all. As the saying goes, higher risk, higher reward. The medal always belongs to the people who are willing to take on challenges. Sometimes the so-called "recklessness" is closer to real bravery than cowardice.

I had a lot to gain from this contest, not only did I learn a lot about more professional business and corporate management knowledge, but I also learnt the importance of teamwork and leadership. The contest had four rounds of operation and decision-making, which requires everyone to work together, and it is much more efficient to discuss with team members than to think alone. During discuss, there has to be someone in charge, otherwise no conclusion will be made. It is very demanding to be a leader.

The most meaningful part of this competition is that we have learnt to take every step seriously, never give up easily no matter what situation arises, and do your best to fight through even if you only have each other on your team.

In the competition, we can see those who did better than us and those who did poorer than us. We felt the joy for the winning team and the disappointment for a losing team. Even though we didn't make it to the finals and didn't get to taste success, we don't cry over our defeat, and isn't that an experience of a lifetime? People should always have their own pursuits and beliefs, don't say "no" too quickly to yourself.

Although the competition is over, I'm left wanting more. At the competition, our team took a lot of human factors into account when making decisions, but unfortunately, we were not scored by humans, but by machines, and I guess they were just grading us based on market averages.

Although our company didn’t rank very high, we were happy with the outcome. We've learned that investing and selling requires careful planning. As a member of the team, it takes a lot of efforts to make a contribution in collaboration with other members, so that we can achieve what an old Chinese saying goes “When people are determined, they can overcome anything.”

-Hardy Li

What struck me the most was the importance of teamwork. Because of the epidemic, we couldn't get together to discuss, but instead we were able to communicate in real time through an online platform and take part in the competition that was made even more challenging than usual. Only one person could scan the code, so it was a test of how well each member could express their thoughts and how accurately the person scanning the code could understand the others' thoughts.

Although we didn't get the expected result this time, we have learned from the experience and we will sign up for the next event to get better!

Unite against the Challenge and Never Give Up.

This is the spirit shown by the students of MBS.

May they shine on a higher stage.
